Getting to the Wyndham Hotel

From the Wilmington Amtrak Station: free pickup by the Wyndham Hotel van (call the main desk in advance to let them know when you’ll be arriving, then call on arrival: 302-655-0400).

From Interstate Route I-95 North: take Exit 7: Route 52, Delaware Avenue. Get in right lane. At 4th traffic light, turn right onto Delaware Avenue. Get in middle lane (left lane will split off but stay in your lane). *Drive straight ahead for .5 miles (Delaware Avenue becomes 10th Street). Turn right at the traffic light at King Street. The hotel is two blocks ahead on the left. Immediately after you go through the 3rd traffic light at 8th Street, turn left into the hotel property for check-in. Parking at the hotel: $9 per night Sunday through Thursday; $6 per night Friday and Saturday.

From Interstate Route I-95 South: take Exit 7: Route 52, Delaware Avenue NORTH. Get in left lane. At the 1st traffic light, turn left onto Delaware Avenue. Follow directions from * above, but it will be .6 mi. from the turn on Delaware Avenue to King Street.

From the Philadelphia International Airport (www.phl.org): Wilmington is approximately 25 miles from the airport. Two van services are recommended for NFPW/DPA Conference participants:

1) Delaware Express Shuttle: 1-800-648-5466 (or reserve online at www.delexpress.com and get $1 discount). On arrival at Philadelphia Airport, pick up your bags, go to the ground transportation desk, call Delaware Express Shuttle (#24), and they will pick you up.

Note: There is a designated area for vans and shuttles to pick up passengers.

Ask where they will meet you curbside. Pickup is normally in about 20 minutes. $29 one way; $20 each for two or more passengers arriving on same flight. Advance reservation saves a $3 walk-on fee.

2) Bee’s Shuttle Service in Wilmington: 302-545-0526 (no 800 number). This smaller company offers to meet you inside the terminal at the baggage claim when you arrive in Philadelphia. They’ll be there holding up a sign for you! One-way fares (each): $40 for one person; $30 for two, $25 for three; $20 for four to six people. Advance reservations are essential.

Note: Cabs are plentiful at the Philadelphia Airport. One-way fare is about $60. Most taxi services allow several to ride for the price of one.

CLIMATE AND CLOTHING

Temperatures in Wilmington in late August/early September range from a daytime average of 80° to an evening average of 65°.

Dress is business casual for the conference; something dressier for the banquets. Casual clothing is recommended for the pre- and post-conference tours, for Friday evening at the Wilmington Riverfront (picking crabs) or should you choose to take either of the walking tours of downtown Wilmington. Take at least one pair of comfortable walking shoes for those activities. Pack a sweater or light jacket for tours and evening activities. The hotel is air conditioned, and it may be cool in the meeting rooms.
